It Happened in Philly

Something magical happened this past weekend.

On Saturday, July 26th, I had the absolute honor of participating in my first-ever fashion show, and what a show it was! Held in Philadelphia (at the Independence Seaport Museum) and organized by the incredibly talented Lisa Walton—designer, seamstress, and visionary behind Unorthodox Clothing—this event was a celebration of Black creativity, fashion, and community. Lisa didn’t just organize it—she owned it, curating every detail and inviting designers she believed in, including me.

I was the only brand not based in Philly, flying in from California to represent my label, SingleTree Lane. That distinction made the moment even more special. Among five featured Black-owned and operated fashion brands, mine stood out not only for its West Coast roots but also for the vibrant fusion of art and function that defines my line.

I preselected my 11 models—seven women and four men—months before the event, ensuring sizing was on point by sending out samples and coordinating fittings from afar. From streetwear looks for men to elevated, easy-to-style day-to-night coordinates for women, the lineup I curated captured the heart of what SingleTree Lane is all about: wearable art that’s easy care, easy wear, and high impact.

And let me tell you—the models loved the pieces. Every single one of them kept their outfits after the show. In fact, other models in the event who didn’t walk for me were hoping to get second dibs on any leftover pieces. Spoiler alert: there were none. I left Philadelphia with no inventory—and I’ve never been happier to go home empty-handed.

The event itself drew over 200 attendees, including reps from major department stores and some of the most influential voices in the Black fashion community. The support, enthusiasm, and love for independent Black-owned fashion brands was palpable. I was blown away by the warm reception from everyone in the room.

For a first fashion show, this experience was beyond anything I could have imagined. From the glowing faces in the crowd to the excited chatter backstage, every moment felt like a win—not just for me, but for everyone involved.

To Lisa Walton: thank you for trusting my work and including SingleTree Lane in your brilliant vision. To Philly: you embraced me like one of your own, and I am so grateful. And to my models: you brought the pieces to life and made me feel like I’d been doing this forever.

This weekend marked the beginning of a new chapter for me and my brand.

Here’s to many more runways, more cities, and more bold, beautiful moments like this.
